Why One Must Read the Holy Geeta at Least Once

Seek and you shall find. That is the value proposition of the Holy Geeta.

The Mahabharata is a timeless tale, encompassing all literary archetypes. The crowning jewel of this epic is the Holy Geeta, a dialogue between the Seeker, and the Sought.

Our current state in life is merely a function of the many decisions we take, not just at crucial junctures, but even in mundane actions. That is to say “It is our choices, much more than our abilities, that define us”.

The Power of Perspective and Decisiveness

Consistent, wise and decisive action, in the face of overwhelming circumstances, is something we all struggle with, including Arjuna. And just as Arjuna transformed into a poised and effective individual after listening to the Holy Geeta, so can we.

Decisiveness must often be complemented by perspective for maximum impact. The many situations the Holy Geeta explores, the many layers of truth that it expounds, and the many lessons it imparts, provide us with a holistic perspective of ourselves, the world around us, and the world within. In an increasingly interconnected world, it enables us to view the world from distinct lenses, and form realistic and grounded conclusions.

Thus, the Holy Geeta is not only philosophy in principle, but also philosophy in action. Individuals from all walks of life, fulfilling the many distinct roles within their lives, can stand to benefit and grow from reading the Holy Geeta.

Accessible Engagement

An interesting aspect of the Holy Geeta, published by Chinmaya Prakashan, is that not only does it index the chapters, it also organises a separate index by context. Grouping content across the length of the Geeta answering specific questions that we encounter in our lives, it facilitates focused, concise and impactful reading of the Geeta in our fast-paced day to day lives. This feature certainly decreases the barrier for entry, and enables accessible engagement with the treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom that is the Holy Geeta.

Just as no man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man, each rereading of the Holy Geeta promises to bring something unique to light, one must only start.
